a new hat!!!!

had again the pleasure to testknit for Rililie
we had so much fun while testing this little hat... ;)
in case you're in need of some fun today, check out our
conversation in the testing thread
the key word is: swatch (hahaha!)

was the first time with this yarn (masgot fine)
and what can i say.... immediately ordered some more for
a fair isle sweater i have in mind for a while....
i love the feel of this rustic, low processed, sheepy yarn
and i love Sylvies dyework (she will dye up some yarn for me
today...YAY!!!...so exciting!)

now to the pattern
a well thought and clearly written pattern, that leads you
through the pathlessness of basket weave worked in rounds

though i need to confess, that i am no basket weave knitter
(i know this by now!!!)...not that i do not love the look and
the behavior of this stitch...i need stitch patterns with
at least 1 or 2 rows of mindless knitting in the repeat...
i am a lazy knitter, you know  ;)

G. is hiking with the guys today, so i will have the day off ;)
....the plan is to work on my new cardigan
cables
garter
ribbing
contrast coloured trim
classic (but cool...i think)

have a great day out there

with a little twist

when i saw Julies torque i knew that i needed one for me
a cute little hat with a twist

mindless st st (the hat is worked inside out - no purls)
perfect project while reading or watching tv :)
i always have projects in that kind on one of my needles
sometimes i need pure st st, no thinking, just knitting....
i worked with a selfstriping grey sockyarn and did contrast
coloured stripes for the lining of this hat -
after finishing i liked my lining much more, so i will wear
this inside out

pattern. torsion by Julie Knits
yarns. jawoll magic col. 84.0005 and trekking pro natura col. 1505

...anyone interested in a little testknit?
just need a few more testers for this
this time there is a deadline - like to have the test finished
till the end of october (think this is plenty of time - it's
a shortsleeved one!)

have a nice sunday

pitch-black

yarn. jawoll magic by LANG YARNS
used doubled
needles. 4 mm for garter band, 5 mm for stst part

here's what i did.

co 90 sts on 4 mm circulars and join to knit in rounds
knit in garter st until piece is 15 cm long
[you can wear the hat with a folded brim if you like]
change to larger needle and stst
inc 10 sts evenly spaced in first stst round = 100 sts
work in plain stst until hat is 25 cm long
beg decreasing.
dec rnd. dec 10 sts evenly spaced = 90 sts
work 3 rnds stst
work next dec rnd = 80 sts
work 3 rnds stst
work next dec rnd = 70 sts
work 3 rnds stst
work next dec rnd = 60 sts
change to dpns when necessary
now dec rnd is worked every other rnd until you have 10 sts
on your needles, cut yarn and pull through rem sts

have fun

 rnd 5: *k1, p2tog, p7; rep to end
rnd 6: *k1, p8; rep to end
rnd 7: *k1, p6, p2tog; rep to end
rnd 8: *k1, p7; rep to end
rnd 9: *k1, p2tog, p5; rep to end
rnd 10: *k1, p6; rep to end
rnd 11: *k1, p4, p2tog; rep to end
rnd 12: *k1, p5; rep to end
rnd 13: *k1, p2tog, p3; rep to end
rnd 14: *k1, p4; rep to end
rnd 15: *k1, [p2tog] twice; rep to end
rnd 16: *k1, p2tog; rep to end
rnd 17: ssk around
cut yarn and pull through rem sts

a new hat

couldn't resist knitting another hat - for me - out of my leftovers
the hat is perfect to add creativity...
on this striped version I added pom-poms

isn't that cute !!

body of hat is a few cm longer than the solid grey, about 18 cm before decreasing.
used alpaca superlight and merino 120 for my hats

there is a wonderful tutorial to make these flower brooches

ready

my new hat,
knitted a few more of these for friends, but never had time to take pics
so here is my very own one!!!
plain and simple with just enough slouch

worked with 2 yarns held together
brim worked flat in garter st
body of hat in rounds in stst

you will need about 150 m alpaca superlight and the same amount of merino 120
from LANG YARNS
circulars and dpns US size 8

and, if you like, pom-poms, buttons, embroidery thread, .....to embellish the little hat

see this post for inspiration

here is what I did:

gauge was 20 sts = 10 cm

headband:
CO 10 sts, work in garter st for 64 rows ridges, BO all sts
sew BO edge to CO edge to form a ring

pick up 96 sts around ring and join to knit in rounds
work in st st until body of hat measures 14 cm ( without band)
beg decreasing:

rnd 1: *k10, k2tog; rep from* to end
k 3 rnds
rnd 5: k4, k2tog, *k9, k2tog; rep from* to last 5 sts, k5
k 2 rnds
rnd 8: k2tog, *k8, k2tog; rep from* to last 8 sts, k8
k 1 rnd
rnd 10: k4, k2tog, *k7, k2tog; rep from* to last 3 sts, k3
k 1 rnd
rnd 12: k2tog, *k2, k2tog; rep from* to last 2 sts, k2
k 1 rnd
rnd 14: *k1, k2tog; rep from* to end
k 1 rnd
rnd 15 + 16: k2tog around

cut yarn, leaving an end for sewing. draw through rem sts, pull up tightly
and weave in end.
